The 100 m² stand hosting Collezione Enrico Maltoni in association with Lavazza at the international coffee championship, will be the venue for an exhibition of antique coffee makers, the book which traces their entire history (Coffee Makers) and a chance to taste Kafa coffee (Lavazza).

The exhibition, particularly close to the heart of Lavazza, takes its inspiration from the book Coffee Makers and its objective is to promote the coffee and coffee maker culture globally.

One hundred examples will be on show, illustrating each of the stages of the history of these rare machines dating from the 17th to the 20th century. The exhibits will be accompanied by original documents (patents, catalogues, manuals, advertising postcards, operating diagrams) and detailed technical explanations. The coffee makers come from the collections: Maltoni, Carli and Lavazza. The book Coffee Makers – Macchine da Caffè (published by Collezione Enrico Maltoni), written by Enrico Maltoni and Mauro Carli, (the authors will be in at the stand) and published in 2013 (1500 copies sold), spans four hundred years of history, from the origins of the drink, with its complicated etiquette and simple equipment, to today’s electric espresso machines. Visitors to the stand will be able to enjoy a cup of Kafa coffee, one of the finest premium coffees in the world, a single origin from Ethiopia, selected by Lavazza and prepared with the antique coffee makers using the various different extraction systems. There is also a surprise in store for visitors… The actress Sara Parisi will appear in “Moka Loka, una donna, un oggetto… una caffettiera” (“Moka Loka, a woman, an object… a coffee maker”), with one performance in the morning and one in the afternoon. This travelling performance tells the story of a coffee maker which comes to life, takes on the body of a woman and makes it her mission to offer her unmistakable aroma with cunning and irony… After the championship, the coffee machine exhibition will continue its tour of the main cities in italy as it accompanies the Coffee Makers promotional book tour. ———————————————————————————————————————— The World Barista Championship (WBC) is the international coffee championship organised every year by World Coffee Events (WCE). The aim of the competition is to promote excellence in coffee and the evolution of the barista profession and engage an international public (with 50 countries represented) in an annual championship which is the culmination of local and regional events organised around the globe (www.worldofcoffee-rimini.com).

Coffee Makers is a unique book, thanks to the sheer quantity of information it contains: 2700 images, 2080 technical descriptions and countless texts split into different historical periods. It features all the different kinds of coffee makers produced to date, photographed in the homes of collectors from all over the world (format: 24.5×30 cm – Pages: 776 – Price: € 100.00 – ISBN 978-88-90065-26-2 – Publisher: Collezione Enrico Maltoni -1st Edition – 2013- Italian/English – Colour illustrations) – www.coffeemakers.it Enrico Maltoni was born in Forlì on 2nd December 1970. He lives and works in Verucchio (Rimini) Italy, and is an expert and collector of antique espresso coffee makers and old books on the subject. In 2001, he published Espresso made in Italy 1901-1962 which has been reprinted 3 times and 9000 copies sold. Enrico is the co-author of Il libro completo del caffè (De Agostini Editore, 2005). His contributions have also appeared in Il Caffè (Giunti Editore, 2009). In 2009, he wrote Faema Espresso 1945-2010. In 2012, Enrico inaugurated MUMAC, the Museum of Coffee-Making Machines, located in Binasco (Milan) in association with Gruppo Cimbali. MUMAC is the most important museum in the world dedicated to the history and culture of espresso machines for coffee bars.

Mauro Carli was born on 2nd December 1961 in Cecina, a small Italian coastal town in the province of Livorno, Tuscany, where he lives and works as a designer for the building industry. He has been collecting antique coffee machines for home use for over twenty years. His interest in industrial design and research – following his university studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence – has led him to combine collecting with the historiographic and iconographic study of patents and treatises on the topic, especially those published in the 19th century. In terms of historical completeness regards the chronological order of the models and systems he has gathered together, Mauro’s collection should be considered among the most important and best qualified in the world.
