MILAN – Today we tell a story that comes from afar and gives us hope, arrived at Comunicaffe International directly from its protagonist Mahsa Niyayesh, an international reader who wanted to communicate her project through these pages. She was born in Tehran where she grew up, she is not even thirty years old. Yet, her young age did not prevent her from gaining not only a great experience in the coffee sector (a beverage for which she has a strong passion) working first of all for large chains, but also a strong civic sense: Mahsa has rolled up her sleeves in the last few years. two years, for all Iranian women working in this area, to improve their conditions.
Mahsa Niyayesh, founder of the first Iranian women’s association
An Association that is committed to creating unity, motivation, perspectives for women active in the coffee industry. In Iran, it all started with the presentation to the public in 2019, over the radio.
As she herself told us: “I immediately realized that we Iranian women not only did not have a common network, but we had never even met once. The operators in my country are successfully active in all departments of the ‘coffee industry, from the roasting, to the commercial part, from the barmaids behind the counter, to the latte artists, up to the preparation of infusions and cocktails. The Association wants to give them a bright future.”
We call ourselves barlady
“The history of this drink in Iran has been passed down from generation to generation, from mother to daughter for years: now, with the help of the internet, we can all keep in touch while staying at home. It’s time to guarantee the access to those of them who cannot afford to enter the competitions because of the too high cost, and the Association wants to provide for them.
I started doing research in the field, soon discovering that there was an international federation of this type, the IWCA (International women’s coffee alliance), in other countries of origin of the bean. So I asked to be able to join.
In Iran this type of female collective was non-existent, but after starting by gathering the first members, many of my friends including several men appreciated the initiative.
We have different objectives and projects: we can boast of different companies that deal with coffee and we have every intention of winning prizes by competing in sector competitions. Now we move towards the world of Sca (Specialty coffee association). ”
We close with a curiosity, Mahsa Niyayeshi’s favorite method: the siphon.
