MILAN – In the closing stages of this year’s edition of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, The Slow Food Coffee Coalition was launched, as an open network that unites all the stakeholders in the coffee supply chain. This project is an initiative of Slow Food and Lavazza, who have worked together since the mid-1990s, and is open to farmers, traders, roasters, baristas, cooks, consumers, companies and institutions who are committed to a future for coffee that involves the conservation of nature and biodiversity, food security, social inclusion and rights, transparency and traceability.
Slow Food and Lavazza have released a Manifesto outlining their commitment to work towards Good, Clean and Fair coffee for all by creating an ethically and socially responsible value chain.
“We believe that good taste and good practices should finally start going hand in hand… and that’s where our Manifesto comes in,” say the founders of the initiative.
“A document that underlines our values such as preserving nature, food security and human rights, just to name a few. We want to promote transparency and traceability to make sure consumers know exactly where their coffee comes from, while also shining a spotlight on each farmer’s fantastic work.”
