PARK CITY, UT, US – Hugo Coffee Roasters owner Claudia McMullin has received the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certification, the most broadly recognized and respected national certification for women-owned businesses. To qualify for the certification, businesses must demonstrate that they are at least 51% owned, operated, controlled, and managed by women.
Once certified, these companies gain access to many business opportunities, including heightened visibility in government and corporate supply chains, networking and mentorship opportunities, and education and development programs to help them grow.
Claudia’s certification for her six-year-old coffee roasting company named for her dog, Hugo, coincided with October’s National Women’s Small Business Month, which Claudia says is especially significant this year. “Women-owned businesses were uniquely disadvantaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, and I’m proud to be part of an organization and movement devoted to closing the revenue and employment gap for women in the wake of a tough couple of years.”
The WBENC just launched their fall 2021 campaign with a simple challenge to consumers to replace one product they already use with a women-owned brand. Claudia will join an army of WBENC-certified Women’s Business Enterprises (WBE) distinguished by the Women Owned Logo to expand her company’s visibility in the effort to close gender gaps.
“I am thrilled to finally be a WBENC-certified business owner,” said Claudia, a former Wall Street lawyer who left her legal career to start Hugo Coffee Roasters. “I could not wait to tell my customers. Diversity programs, here I come!”
Hugo Coffee Roasters is known for its slogan “Drink Coffee, Save Dogs” because it supports small and medium-sized animal rescues and sanctuaries with weekly, week-long, online fundraisers. The company sells its beans wholesale to businesses in Utah and has recently expanded its direct-to-costumer e-store sales with popular products like “Dog Daze” cold brew coffee bags and “Bonafido” single serve coffee bags, which offer barista-level coffee in an instant.
Claudia McMullin graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program in 2019 and the PepsiCo/FritoLay Stacy’s Rise Project 2020 Accelerators Program.
