MILTON KEYNES, UK – UCC Group has unified the UCC Group’s sustainability policy, with new global goals and plans on how it will achieve them. The UCC Sustainability Direction is a roadmap that underpins UCC Group’s contribution to the realization of a sustainable society.
Based on the sustainability vision of Powering Positive Change with Coffee, UCC Group has established two major ambition areas: Helping Nature Thrive and Helping People Flourish.
For its nature ambition, UCC Group has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality and implementing a nature positive approach by 2040. It also announced an intermediate goal to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gases by 46% by 2030 (compared to 2019).
For its people ambition, UCC Group has set a goal to make its own brand coffee products 100% sustainably sourced by 2030 and to leave a positive impact on society in the fields of health and education.
The UCC Sustainability Direction is the output of a global project, which started in March 2021. During the process, internal and external stakeholders were consulted, trends and risks analysed and a materiality matrix to capture the most material issues was created. The materiality matrix was used to establish the vision, framework and global goals captured in the direction.
The UCC Group has also established a global sustainability governance system so that the sustainability of the group can be steadily promoted based on its direction.
This will be achieved by resolving key issue areas at its monthly global sustainability committee meeting and monitoring the progress of sustainability promotion by its management.
The UCC Sustainability Direction forms part of the UCC Group’s new management policies, which also includes its purpose (Unlocking the power of coffee for a better world), values and corporate message (Every coffee, every moment). Its purpose, values and corporate message were renewed in October 2021.
