Coffee farmers in Vietnam are speeding up harvesting operations encouraged by higher prices. Beans stood at 40,800-41,200 dong per kg ($1.90-$1.93) on Tuesday in Daklak.

This is 23% higher than past year, based on on Reuters data.

“The harvest is in full swing and sales are picking up pace, so the shipments this month will be higher,” said a trader with a European company in Ho Chi Minh City.

“The harvest is about one third complete,” said a trader in Buon Ma Thuot, interviewed by Reuters. “In the next 10 days fresh beans will be available for export in bulk,” he added.

Traders said rain from a storm that hit central coastal provinces did not affect the harvest, which has been slightly behind where it was at the same time last year.

By early December 2013 Vietnam had picked around half of its coffee crop.
