Colombian coffee growers and major players of the international coffee industry, including Takashi Wasa, Vice President of Coca-Cola Japan, and Nigel Travis, President of Dunkin Brands, are taking part to the LXXX National Congress of Coffee Growers, which wraps up today in Bogota.

The National Congress is the highest deliberative body of Colombia’s coffee growing industry and the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC). Coffee leaders elected through the Coffee Grower Elections meet and, on behalf of the more than 500,000 Colombian coffee growing families, define the way ahead of the coffee sector for the upcoming five years.

Ric Rhinehart, Executive Director of the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and Ramón González, Director of the Tequila Regulatory Council A.C and President of Origin International, are also attending the event.

Among the issues addressed at the Congress are the challenges posed by climate change, the management of production costs, knowledge transfer from generation to generation, and value added commercialisation. Coffee leaders will discuss the programs implemented by the FNC in the past few years and approve a new strategic plan.
