MINNEAPOLIS – Cameron’s Coffee has introduced a new Filtered Single Serve coffee brewed through a filter, not a plastic cup, so coffee drinkers across the country can enjoy conveniently brewed coffee with less plastic waste and no fear of burnt-plastic aftertaste.

In celebration of the launch, Cameron’s invites fans to share plastic-cup-crushing videos or photos on Twitter with the hashtag #CrushTheCups or uploaded to the website CrushTheCups.com to taste the new product for free.

In conjunction with the Filtered Single Serve coffee launch and the #CrushtheCups campaign, Cameron’s fielded a national survey that found eight in 10 (80%) coffee drinkers have concerns about traditional single serve coffee. Plastic taste (51%) and wastefulness (45%) topped the list of worries among this group.

“More roasting and brewing methods are available than ever before, but most coffee lovers don’t know how to ensure quality in every way,” said Allison Murn, Vice President of Marketing at Cameron’s Coffee. “With Cameron’s new Filtered Single Serve coffee, you can feel good about brewing a great-tasting single cup without compromising flavor or convenience.”

The survey examined the tastes and preferences of American coffee drinkers. Though 84 percent describe themselves as environmentally friendly and 87 percent would not consider themselves to be wasteful, more than half (53%) of at-home brewers today use single-cup machines.

With Cameron’s new BPA-free and polystyrene-free soft-bottom mesh Filtered Single Serve coffee there is less plastic waste than the common plastic single serve coffee cup.

The survey also found that a minority—only 25 percent—of coffee drinkers are aware that hot water can make plastic single serve coffees more dangerous for the drinker.

Other key survey findings include:

  • 95 percent of coffee drinkers would give up their favorite coffee brand or shop forever if it meant they’d never experience the flavor of plastic.
  • More than a third (34%) of coffee drinkers say that their first cup of coffee each day is one of the things they’d be willing to sacrifice if they’d never have to taste plastic coffee again.

#CrushTheCups for Free Coffee and Chances to Win!
From now until December 22, Cameron’s is inviting coffee drinkers to “Crush the Cups” and share the news that there is a less wasteful and better-tasting way to enjoy single serve coffee.

Creatively destroy any plastic single serve coffee cup in a photo or video uploaded on YouTube.com and shared on CrushtheCups.com or shared in a tweet with the hashtag #CrushtheCups to receive a digital coupon for a free box of Cameron’s Filtered Single Serve Coffee.

All submissions will be featured on CrushTheCups.com. The top five videos will receive a year’s worth of free coffee from Cameron’s, and the entrant with the best video will win a trip for two to Kona, Hawaii—including airfare, a five-night hotel stay and tour of a local coffee plantation. See Official Rules for details.

About the Survey
Kelton, a leading global insights firm, conducted the Cameron’s Coffee survey between Nov. 11 and Nov. 17, 2014, among 1,012 Americans ages 18 and over who drink at least one cup of coffee each day, using an email invitation and an online survey. The margin of error is +/- 3.1 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
