YAME, Japan – Japan introduces the new luxury gyokuro green tea at 27,000 yen a bottle (approximately 180 dollars). The tea-makers (Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro) from the city of Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan, are launching this bottle to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the tea. One of the main reasons why gyokuro teas are so expensive is the process of growth: this unique Japanese tea is grown under the shade and not directly under the sun. Another detail to consider is the temperature of the water and brewing time.

The brewing time of these leaves takes up to 10 hours in water under an average temperature between -1 to -2 degree Celsius.

The tea-makers dedicated six months of their lives to bottling the tea and preserving the taste and aroma of this unique drink.

It has been announced that only 100 bottles have been made so far: only half of them will be shipped worldwide, and the other half will remain in Yame for domestic customers. It has already been decided that they will make another 200 bottles in 2023. However, the main goal is to brew 5000 bottles by 2028.
