Julius Meinl launches “Say Thank You” initiative to celebrate the power of gratitude in the workplace

Christina Meinl: “Last year the Julius Meinl ‘Say Thank You’ initiative inspired more than 250,000 ‘thank you’s’ in more than 20 countries across the globe, and we wanted to build further on this success in 2023. Our global study of 4,000 adults from across Europe, found that of those working full or part time, two in three people agree the words ‘thank you’ aren’t said enough in the workplace. Over half said this is because bosses expect a good job to be done all the time, while 40% cited “time pressures” as one of the main reasons a ‘thanks’ ‘often goes amiss at work. Our research clearly brings to light how seemingly small gestures and everyday moments such as taking someone for a coffee can make such a big impact, and just how important it is to take the time out to not only show our appreciation to our loved ones, but our work colleagues too. After all, we spend so much time with them and building strong relationships at work is what makes a good team and can have positive benefits for everyone involved too."

VIENNA, Austria – This May, the hotel, restaurant and cafe industry is set to benefit from the latest ‘Say Thank You’ activation from premium coffee roasters Julius Meinl. The initiative, which launches today, builds on the success of last year’s campaign and has been created to reward loyal hospitality partners of the iconic Vienna coffee brand, with a footfall driving activation that encourages hotel, restaurant and café businesses to pass kindness on to their customers with the gift of a complimentary Julius Meinl coffee.

The event “say thank you” by Julius Meinl

With this year’s campaign seeking to inspire more ‘thank yous’ and moments of kindness in the workplace with their premium coffee, partners from around the world can participate in the free, easy-to-action marketing initiative. Coffee lovers will be encouraged to order a coffee and receive a complimentary voucher to Say Thank You to someone of their choosing, whether that’s a colleague or a loved one; leading to more meaningful connections being created.

Participating Say Thank You outlets will be provided with a POS kit and selected regions will see PR and social media support to drive footfall and attract new customers through the initiative.

Christina Meinl said: “Last year the Julius Meinl ‘Say Thank You’ initiative inspired more than 250,000 ‘thank you’s’ in more than 20 countries across the globe, and we wanted to build further on this success in 2023.”

A simple gesture of gratitude

“That’s why for each coffee ordered, customers will receive a voucher for a complimentary cup of Julius Meinl that they can pass onto someone who truly deserves a ‘thank you’, and share a positive, meaningful moment together through a simple gesture.”

“This initiative, which has been created specially to support our loyal HoReCa partners, gives us a great opportunity to practice what we preach. Julius Meinl says thank you to our loyal partners. Our partners can then thank their visitors and guests, who can then thank someone in their lives – after all, a little thank you goes a long way.”

The power of coffee in the workplace

For most of us, the average week sees us spend more time interacting at work with our co-workers, than with our own family and friends, so when it comes to showing kindness and gratitude, what better place to start than at work, says premium coffee roaster Julius Meinl.

However, when it comes to employee wellbeing and retention, the importance of saying ‘thank you’ should not be underestimated. 63% say not being thanked enough in the workplace makes them feel taken for granted, while a third worry about whether their work is good enough. However, 46% of people agreed baristas, waiters and waitresses deserved to be thanked more for their work.

Simple acts of gratitude are the best

It’s not just in the workplace where saying ‘thank you’ goes a long way. The study found that simple moments can have a transformative effect on people’s moods. For example, 85% of those surveyed said a smile from a stranger can really brighten their day.

Julius Meinl also found that a small gesture can often be all that’s needed to show someone we care. 79% agreed inviting a friend of family member for coffee is one of the easiest ways a person can say ‘thank you’, followed by a hug (50%) and sending flowers or a card (20%). It’s often the small moments, like having a coffee with a dear one, that make life “liveable”.

It also showed the multiplying effect of these small gestures and how they can have a big impact – 90% said hearing those two magic words ‘thank you’ made them more likely to thank others throughout the day.

Simple gestures are the most meaningful

Christina adds: “Our own team philosophy at Julius Meinl is to create meaningful moments in each other’s lives, and that’s exactly what our ‘Say Thank You’ initiative aims to do with every cup of coffee served.”

The initiative will be launching for a second year at participating outlets from 15th May, 2023 and will run until 30th June 2023.

With the #saythankyou hashtag, the coffee roaster will also support participating outlets’ social media activity, generating more traffic to the business’s social channels when official Julius Meinl content is reshared.
