MILAN – Coffee exports from Brazil recorded a strong rebound during the month of July, according to Cecafé, the association of Brazilian coffee exporters. Shipments of all forms of coffee rose by almost 19% to 2,991,495 bags, the highest volume for the month since 2020.
Green coffee exports amounted to 2,695,811 bags, a 22.3% increase over last year. The surge was driven by a whopping 245.4% increase in Robusta exports that totalled over half a million bags.
Arabica shipments rose more modestly by 6.5% to little less of 2.2 million bags. Sales of processed coffee (mostlu soluble) were down by 6.8% to 295,684 bags.
Brazilian Robusta coffee is “experiencing a window of opportunity,” said Marcio Ferreira, president of Cecafe, citing high prices mainly in Vietnam and Indonesia.
However, cumulative coffee exports since the beginning of the calendar year are still down by -14.7% to 19,222,325 bags. Green coffee shipments were slightly below the 17 million mark, or a 16.4% decrease over the same period last year.
Robusta volumes rose by 33.7% to 1,262,321 bags, but were still below historical averages. Arabica exports were almost 19% down to 15,725,797 bags.
Sales of processed coffee were flat at 2,234,207 bags. Exports to main markets were mostly down, with the only exception of Japan.
Shipments to USA, Germany, Italy and Belgium fell by 26.5%, 43.5%, 18.5% and 46.5% respectively. Exports to Japan rose by 26%.
Hamburg was the main destination port, followed by New Orleans, Antwerp, Bremen, Yokohama and Genova.
