MILAN, Italy – Thanks to the cooperation with Wertkaffee Gmbh, the company BWT has made a positive impact in the local actions of CEO Chris Pfeiffer and his team of partners. Wertkaffe Gmbh, a German coffee trader and roaster, strives to create a longstanding relationship for direct trade of local coffee producers based on the basic principle which drives Mehrwert : “added value coffee”.

This principle is based on 3 main pillars :

• stable and fair prices for producers
• reasonable prices for customers
• support of social projects in the coffee community

A strong philosophy that translates into concrete actions. In fact, for every kilo of coffee purchased by their customers, Wertkaffe invests 1 euro in the local community the Crossroads social project led by Philipp Schliesser.

Since 2017 more 10.000 new coffee sprouts have been planted with an investment of over € 30.000,00. A greater understanding of coffee processing has improved the quality of the harvest and provide better value for the local population.

Further investments have been allocated to the Crossroads Project, based in Songhor, Kenya.

The project uses coffee to keep young people away from crime and give them a greater perspective in life, rehabilitating prison inmates, teaching them a skilled trade and introducing them into the coffee community. In 18 years of activity, over 30 people have become part of this new community and there are currently 8 new men part of the 2023 project.

2023 marked an important milestone in the Crossroads Project and a positive contribution of BWT Water+More with its water filtration systems.

Thanks to numerous contributions collected, a new building was built and inaugurated earlier this year housing sorting tables for pre-sorting cherries, storage areas for green coffee and the very first cupping lab in the region.

Local farmers are now able to better evaluate their coffee and improve its quality in the long term.

The newly created laboratory makes it possible to test samples on site for over 30 farmers in the area.

BWT is proud to have contributed to this important project and social activity, providing the cupping lab with its premium mineralized water. The objective to improve the quality of water and therefore enhance the flavours of the coffee has been met with great enthusiasm, and the results are outstanding.

Yearly visits to Kenya with coffee buyers and roasters are arranged and fair prices for the years coffee crop are set. Close work with the local population allows Wertkaffe and its partners to better understand the local experiences, challenges and needs. Trainings and seminars are held to encouraging local farmers to invest further in their coffee cultivation.

Ambitious goals for the future are set, to further expand the Wertkaffe philosophy and enlarge the Crossroads project to impact a greater number of people.

BWT Water+More commits to its role and confirms its strong social commitment through mutual investments with this important new partner.
