ADDIS ABABA – The East African Fine Coffee Association (EAFCA) Ethiopian Chapter in partnership with Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX), Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Trade and Ethiopia Coffee Exporters Association (ECEA) conducted the annual “Taste of Harvest” (ToH) coffee competition last month.
The event took place from 28th till 30th January 2015 at ECX’s Internationally Certified coffee laboratory as selected by EAFCA TOH Committee.
The purpose of this competition is to identify and recognize the finest coffees that will score high points in overall quality and international standing.
ECX played a key role in this competition by providing a proficient judgment by its expert Mr. Workineh Mulat who is the head of Judges of ToH competition.
In this regard, ECX has been honored by EAFCA in a ceremony held at Addis Ababa Golf Club and received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of its support and active participation during the competition.
The judgment is based on the fundamental specialty coffee quality features like Fragrance/Aroma, Acidity, Body, Flavor, Cup Clinginess, Uniformity, Balance, Sweetness, Aftertaste and overall cup Quality.
Currently EAFCA holds an annual country-specific, National Taste of Harvest (ToF) competition to determine the best domestic coffee samples within each country, so as to yield those selected best samples to regional and international marketing events and at the annual EAFCA conference and exhibition.
The Taste of Harvest (ToH) program is the only annual cupping training and competition held in Eastern and Southern Africa and has become the premier event in nine member countries
