MILAN – The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is announcing two updates for the 2024 World Coffee Championships season—the release of rules & regulations for the World Brewers Cup and World Cup Tasters Championship, and that the Cezve/Ibrik Championship will take place at SCA World of Coffee Copenhagen in June.
The 2024 updates to the World Brewers Cup introduce changes across beverage definitions, coffee evaluation, and barista evaluation procedures. The coffee evaluation section has been adjusted to clarify procedure when competitors do not give instructions and temperature references have been removed.
In the open service round, the barista evaluation procedure “attention to details”, “coffee knowledge and proper use of equipment”, and “presentation” categories have been rephrased for additional clarity.
Both the World Brewers Cup & World Cup Tasters Championships rules had minor updates for consistency across competitions, including clarifications around conflicts of interest, and more clarity around the role of the Judge Operations Lead team.
These rules will be used for the first world event of the 2024 competition season, when the World Brewers Cup & World Cup Tasters Championship take place at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Chicago, USA, from April 12-14.
The announcement also confirms that the 2024 season will end with four championships in Copenhagen, Denmark—the Cezve/Ibrik Championship will take place in addition to the World Latte Art, World Coffee in Good Spirits, and World Coffee Roasting Championships at World of Coffee Copenhagen, Denmark, June 27-29.
