TRIESTE, Italy – Starting in January 2024, select illy cafés in Europe will host tastings of the winners of the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award 2023: a journey of discovery featuring the two batches of Arabica coffee that won the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award 2023.

The tastings to be held in select illy cafés will be devoted to the two winning coffees, from Guatemala and Brazil.

From January to February 29, 2024, the tastings will feature the winner of the “Coffee Lover’s Choice” award, Luis Arimany Mondonico’s Finca Danilandia in Guatemala, selected by a panel of consumers after blind tastings organized in several illy cafés worldwide.

From October to mid-November, the tastings will feature the winner of the “Best of the Best” award assigned by an international panel of coffee experts, chefs, and journalists to the São Mateus Agropecuaria regenerative farm in Brazil.

The Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award is named after the company’s visionary leader, the son of illycaffè’s founder and a pioneer in virtuous collaboration with coffee farmers.

The award allows illycaffè to celebrate the best coffees in the world in terms of sustainable quality, to renew its commitment to improving the lives of coffee farmers, and to fulfil its dream of providing the best coffee nature can offer.

These two 100% Arabica batches come from Brazil and Guatemala. Each has its own distinct aroma, scent, and flavour, and will be made available on this unique opportunity to explore the world of coffee and discover new tastes and scents.

The tastings will be accompanied by illustrations by Miranda Sofroniou, whose iconic, minimalistic and colourful lines were chosen to depict Guatemala, and by the designer Angela Mckay, whose vivid drawings bring Brazilian faces and customs to life.

Through this initiative, illycaffè aims to use language, graphic art, and the lively palettes of the selected illustrators to highlight one of the core components of its corporate culture and ethics: the heritage of values that lies behind coffee production and coffee-producing countries.
