MILAN – According to Bloomberg Armajaro Trading Ltd., a supplier of soft commodities, signed an agreement to provide Vietnamese coffee to DE Master Blenders 1753 NV (DE), maker of Douwe Egberts.

The trader will “directly source” Master Blenders’ needs for coffee from the world’s biggest producer of robusta beans, Armajaro said in an e-mailed statement today, says Bloomberg.

The deal will create a “much closer traceable relationship” between the roaster and 10,000 producers, according to the statement.

“Our agreement is a pioneering change in the relationship between roasters and suppliers, enabling us to work together to improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers,” Richard Gower, chief executive officer at Armajaro, was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.

Vietnam Armajaro Trading started sourcing coffee in Vietnam in 2003 and in 2005/6 built a dedicated coffee processing facility, located in Long Thanh District in the province of Dong Nai.  This 10,000 sqm facility which became operational in May 2006, uses the latest technology to process green coffee beans prior to their delivery to coffee roasters around the world.

Armajaro Trading is one of the country’s leading purchasers and exporters of coffee with an experienced management team who supervise and administer coffee origination, storage, quality control, export and shipping documentation. AVL employs 74 staff in its coffee operations and a further 5 staff in its growing cocoa division, which sources cocoa beans for export through buying stations in Baria Vung Tau and Binh Tre. Armajaro Trading Vietnam is actively involved in 4C, RA and UTZ certified sustainability initiatives to help improve returns to growers.
