WINTERTHUR, Switzerland – Volcafe, one of the world’s largest coffee merchants, announces the appointment of Raphaelle Peinado as Sustainability Director, starting 1 September 2024. As a thought leader and experienced sustainability expert, Raphaelle will drive Volcafe’s global sustainability efforts and implement and further develop Volcafe’s sustainable strategy.

In her role, Raphaelle will lead and implement the expansion of Volcafe’s strategic global sustainability initiatives and further develop and maintain the company’s sustainability partnerships. She will also work in concert with Volcafe’s parent company, ED&F Man Commodities, in implementing the group’s sustainability strategy.

Raphaelle brings over 12 years of experience in sustainability within international organisations where she managed and led a wide range of sustainability projects. After starting her career in Peru where she spent six years, she joined Sucden in 2017 where she most recently developed and led the sustainability strategy of their Cocoa department.

Tim Scharrer, Volcafe’s Chief Operating Officer and Regional Director Europe and North America, commented: ‘With a strong emphasis on commercial growth and partnerships, as well as a wealth of experience in project management, I am very confident that Raphaelle will successfully drive our efforts to deliver on our vision of a thriving, sustainable coffee business for all.’

Raphaelle commented: ‘I am very excited to be joining and learning from the Volcafe team. Cocoa and coffee farmers and producing countries face many similar challenges, so I very much look forward to bringing lessons learned from the cocoa sector and adapting them as needed to the context and specific challenges of the coffee sector.

I am also thrilled to be working with stakeholders across the coffee supply chain, from farmers to the Volcafe team and our customers, to further the objectives of promoting the resilience of the coffee sector and of contributing to the improvement of the lives of coffee farmers around the world.’
