SOLNA – Arvid Nordquist is the first Swedish company to join World Coffee Research (WCR). As a leading coffee roastery, they are dedicated to securing the future of quality coffee by investing in and supporting groundbreaking agricultural research.

What is World Coffee Research?

Compared to other crops, coffee farming has historically been underfunded with regards to research and development. World Coffee Research is a non-profit organisation formed in 2012 to address this imbalance.

WCR unites more than 190 companies from 30 countries in a joint effort to drive global research and development for the coffee farming community. Using a science-based agricultural methodology, WCR aims to secure a diverse and sustainable supply of quality coffee by developing innovative coffee varieties and farming practices – feasible today and for future generations.

As a result of WCR’s development projects, coffee farmers will have access to improved coffee varieties offering increased yields. This will help growers manage the risk climate change poses upon coffee production.

For Arvid Nordquist, it is not just about securing our raw materials. It is about protecting the future of coffee farmers and ensuring that the next generation will also be able to enjoy high-quality coffee. By supporting WCR, we are part of the solution to the global challenges facing the coffee industry, from climate change to biodiversity loss.

Being the first Swedish company to join World Coffee Research is an important milestone for us at Arvid Nordquist. We look forward to working with WCR and other members to drive the research and innovation needed to ensure a sustainable and diverse future for coffee – both for us and for future generations.

“We know that research and development is crucial to succeeding with the climate transition however R&D is difficult to manage in an industry mainly consisting of smallholders. By supporting WCR, we contribute to making the latest research accessible to everyone. It’s important for the future of coffee,” says Erica Bertilsson, Director Sustainability & Communications
