PATROCÍNIO, Minas Gerais, Brazil – With over 550,000 60kg bags sold to the international market, the Cerrado Coffee Growers Cooperative (Expocacer) has achieved a record-breaking 41% increase in coffee exports during 2024, compared to the entire year of 2023. This volume translates to approximately US$138 million in revenue. To the national market (Brazil), sales reached over 870,000 60kg bags, generating around US$165 million, totaling approximately US$303 million in revenue for 2024.
“At Expocacer, we continuously strive to offer high-quality coffee, a result of the effort and dedication of our producers. Recently, we took important steps to strengthen our international presence by opening commercial offices in South Korea and the United Kingdom, in addition to a logistics hub in the United States, opened in 2024. These actions have been crucial in expanding our competitiveness, optimizing operations, and boosting exports, allowing us to reach new markets and establish highly relevant strategic partnerships”, said Ítalo Henrique, Commercial Director of Expocacer.
The coffee market is also on the rise due to the growing consumption of the beverage among younger people. The cooperative exports coffee to over 35 countries, with the main destinations being France, Belgium, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, South Korea, and the United States, which leads the ranking with approximately 15% of all Expocacer exports.
According to Mordor Intelligence, the global coffee market size is estimated at US$132 billion and is expected to reach approximately US$166 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 4.72% during the forecast period. Consumers are now looking for certified and traceable coffee to ensure the credibility of the beverage. In the last year, the cooperative made several shipments in compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
A significant highlight in the cooperative’s pioneering journey in 2024 was the approval of ECO By Expocacer, an exclusive sustainability protocol recognized by the Global Coffee Platform (GCP) as equivalent to the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code, with second-party assurance.
The goal of ECO By Expocacer is to ensure that all parties involved in the certification process are aligned with the fundamental principles of an economically viable, socially conscious, and environmentally sustainable coffee sector.
“The growth in the number of conscious consumers has been one of the main factors for the increase in our exports. New generations, such as Millennials and Gen Z, play a central role in this scenario, with an ever-increasing demand for products that reflect values of sustainability and transparency. Our coffees are certified with labels such as regenerative, low carbon, and organic, in addition to guaranteeing complete traceability, fostering consumer confidence in knowing the origin of the bean”, says Simão Pedro de Lima, Executive President of Expocacer.
Also according to Mordor Intelligence, in addition to traditional coffee flavors, new and unique sensory experiences, with floral notes and other natural flavors, are increasingly attracting new consumers who are looking for unique tasting experiences. These innovations have also helped drive the growth of the coffee market.
“In addition to preserving the quality of the coffee, we work to deliver to our commercial partners an offer that follows market innovation trends, aligning with the expectations of consumers seeking new and differentiated flavors,” concludes the Commercial Director of Expocacer.
