LIMA – The 9th Quality Coffees Contest (IX Concurso de Cafés de Calidad) will be held in Lima from Sept. 25-27. Andina news agency reports that the contest will take place at the headquarters of the National Coffee Board. The winners of the contest will be showcased at the third annual Expo Café Perú.
The event which will be held from Sept. 27-29 in the Parque de la Exposición in the center of Lima.
All coffees will be tasted by an international team of judges, including Panamanian coffee producer Francisco Serracín and American tasters Jeff Taylor and Jonathan Meadows.
According to Andina, industry leaders still have faith in Peruvian coffee products in spite of the recent coffee leaf rust plague (la roya).
“We’re hoping that the improvement in production that we’re employing makes the judges see that Peruvian coffee is at a competitive level, and that it meets with the expectations that were set at last year’s competition,” Lorenzo Castillo, director of the National Coffee Board, told Andina.
Expo Café Perú is an international event that seeks to integrate the different national and international economic agents related to this product through the exchange of knowledge, information and networking contacts.
