Coffee shops are more than just places to get a dose of caffeine; from lounge seating and cultural events to gourmet food and creative espresso drinks, they’re now among the hottest places to hang in a city.

This month, the coffee bar at Courtyard by Marriott Ahmedabad celebrated its first year with a party worthy of that new definition. Java+ welcomed millennials, socialites and business folks alike to the anniversary celebration.

Themed after the popular Netflix series Orange is the New Black, the night included festive décor, a cake cutting and a performance from Mumbai-based band Black Velveteen, who played a mix of retro, jazz and blues tracks.

“Java+ is the city’s top hang-out destination,” Gaurav Singh, General Manager of the Ahmedabad hotel, says. “The lively yet idyllic ambience, efficient service and extensive selection of quick-serve delicacies allow the cafe to cater to a wide range of people from different walks of life and age groups. The first anniversary is a testimony of its popularity and the quality of service we’ve been able to deliver.”

The Ahmedabad coffee bar and lounge is part of the international Java+ brand, which made its mark at other Marriott hotels in Singapore, China and the Philippines before debuting in India at this 5-star hotel. Modeled on the 19th century European cafe concept, the coffee bar appeals to those looking for a place to work, relax or socialize, and offers flexible seating and Wi-Fi.

An extensive beverage menu features single-origin coffees from Colombia, Java and Ethiopia; Chinese, Japanese and estate teas from Assam and Darjeeling; indulgent milkshakes and iced coffees; and crowd favourites including hot chocolate, cappuccino, iced tea and India’s unofficial drink of choice, chai.

The hotel cafe is a popular stop for Ahmedabad business travellers, students and locals on their way to work, so grab-and-go food is as much a focus as great drinks.

Mornings offer bakery selections, waffles and smoothies; lunch includes sandwiches, wraps and salads; and evening features a wide range of tempting items such as the Maggie burger and cupcakes.

Guests can also take their Java+ favourites home with them, thanks to a retail area with homemade chocolates, cookies and macaroons, coffee beans, Dilmah teas and high-end cigars, which can also be enjoyed in the outdoor courtyard/ vertical garden.
