The “High Level Stakeholder Forum for Sustainable Landscape Approach” was launched by the Governor of South Sumatra last week. This platform provides IDH with the mandate to convene the private sector to, together with Indonesian paper giant Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), work on a sustainable landscape.

This will be done by working with all the involved stakeholders in the landscape. Such an approach, according to IDH, is essential for the sustainable management of natural resources.

The event was supported by IDH partner APP and by IDH, and endorsed by the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry, the Presidential Special Envoy for Climate Change, and the Chair of the Climate Change Mitigation Board. Further discussions on the content of this agreement will be held in South Sumatra in September.

IDH Country Director in Indonesia Fitrian Ardiansyah says: “We thank the Governor and partners to be able to form part of this, and will work hard to achieve the desired results. You can’t ask for a better landscape project or supply shed that ties palm oil, pulp and paper, and coffee nicely together, in which if this is developed sustainably it will contribute to production and protection purposes”.

The Indonesian government hopes to share the first results of this partnership at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP-21 in Paris in December of this year.

The event was attended by national and regional government representatives, as well as delegates from the private sector, NGOs and universities.
