Colombia, the world’s leading producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced a total of 1,240,000 60 kilo bags during June 2015. This meant a 31 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

Year to date production (January 2015 -June 2015) increased 10 percent, reaching a total of 6 million 60 kilo bags.

Similarly, between July 2014 and June 2015, Colombian coffee production reached a total of 12.8 million bags. This represented a 12 percent increase compared to the 11.5 million bags produced between July 2013 and June 2014.

The recovery that Colombia’s coffee production has experienced is the result of the coffee crop renovation initiatives led by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC).

A total of 3,438 million trees have been renovated since 2009 (most of them with resistant varieties that are better adapted to climate variability) in 648,000 coffee growing hectares.

Exports

Colombian coffee exports have also experienced positive growth. During June 2015, coffee exports increased 31 percent, reaching a total of 997 million 60 kilo bags.

Year to date exports reached 5.8 million bags, meaning a 10 percent increase compared to the 5.3 million bags sold between January and June 2014. Similarly, during the past twelve months (July 2014-June 2015), coffee exports increased 8 percent, reaching a total of 11.5 million bags.
