SEOUL, South Korea – Eight out of 10 adult South Koreans drink at least two cups of coffee a day, and many of them make their own coffee at home in addition to visiting cafes, according to a survey conducted on 1,076 respondents who attended a global cafe exhibition in November.

36 percent said they drink about two cups of coffee a day, while a quarter drink three cups, and 15 percent indulge in four or more cups.

The Seoul International Cafe Show, the annual cafe exhibition’s host, said six out of 10 chose cafes based on coffee taste, while two put more priority on prices.

About 70 percent brew their coffee at home, with many of them having experiences of learning how to make espresso drinks or hand drip coffee.

“The coffee market is continuing to grow this year,” the Seoul Cafe Show said. “As more people make their own coffee for taste, it could emerge as a new trend in the coffee industry.”

Coffee has long become the best-selling drink in South Korea, and cafes in major cities also serve as meeting venues or places to socialize and study.
