Preparations in full swing for 90th anniversary of Internorga

HAMBURG, Germany – The 90th anniversary of INTERNORGA is coming up. Preparations are moving at full pace, and the Hamburg Fair site is completely booked. The action takes place in Hamburg from 11 to 16 March 2016, with around 1,300 exhibitors from 25 countries presenting their new products, innovations and trends.

INTERNORGA will once again be the meeting point of the industry. As in previous years, trade visitors can look forward to an exciting and varied supporting programme with plenty of highlights.

Next Chef Award, East Foyer (upper floor)

Challenge 1: Saturday 12/03, 14:00 to 16:00, Challenge 2: Sunday 13/03, 14:00 to 16:00

Challenge 3: Monday 14/03, 10:00 to 12:00, Final: Monday 14/03, 14:30 to 16:30

INTERNORGA is launching a new cooking competition in cooperation with celebrity chef Johann Lafer. The Next Chef Award is a competition with six aspiring young chefs (up to 26 years old) each day from 12 to 14 March 2016, from Germany, Austria and Switzerland; they will compete with one another live at INTERNORGA. The candidates will be given four identical ingredients, and have to create an innovative main course using these ingredients, with just 60 minutes to complete the task. The two winners each day will qualify for the final on 14 March, when the best young chefs battle it out in the grand final. A panel of expert judges will assess their skills. Johann Lafer will give comments during the live challenges on what the candidates are cooking up. The first prize is spectacular, and could be the start to a stellar career – the winner will be able to publish his or her own cookery book with TEUBNER Verlag.

Gastro Startup Competition, East Foyer (upper floor)

The Gastro Startup Competition goes into top gear, hosted by INTERNORGA together with Tim Mälzer and Leaders Club Concepts (LCC). The six finalists, who have already been picked in a qualifying contest, will present their innovative culinary concepts live at the fair. The expert audience there will then choose the best concept. The winner will receive a loan of up to EUR 50,000, consulting service (40 hours) by experts from the LCC, and access to the legendary INTERNORGA Food Service events. In addition, ECE, Germany’s biggest shopping centre operator, will offer one of the six finalists a space in one of its shopping centres in Germany.

CRAFT BEER Arena, Hall B4 (upper floor)

The CRAFT BEER Arena continues its success story at INTERNORGA. Following a brilliant debut at INTERNORGA 2015, this is the second time for the CRAFT BEER Arena – and it is bigger and more international this year. A total of more than 30 creative breweries will participate in 2016. They include brewers who were already present at the premiere, plus many new exhibitors. There will be more international craft beers among them, using INTERNORGA to launch their sales in the German and European markets. The CRAFT BEER Arena also has an extensive supporting programme covering all aspects of beer diversity – with workshops on a range of subjects such as how to stage craft beer in your own restaurant, cost calculation, and effective craft beer marketing. There will also be introductions to craft beer, and craft beer tastings.

Newcomers’ Area, Hall B4 (upper floor)

The Newcomers’ Area is INTERNORGA’s showcase for innovative products and unconventional ideas. And it will be even bigger in 2016. This year’s exhibitors will be more than 20 companies that aim to develop new target groups and fields of business. Their products include the first natural smoothie for self-mixing, a South African street food speciality, and a system for converting tap water to drinking water.

Trendforum Pink Cube, B2 (ground floor)

daily at 13:00 and 16:00 – concepts with personality and unique character

The Trendforum Pink Cube will be a big crowd puller again. Trend expert Karin Tischer will take a look outside the box and into the future, presenting international food service news and snacking trends. The Trendforum is also a discussion platform and meeting place for ideas and inspiration. The key subjects there will be set by the two trend presentations “New International Trends, Facts and News”, which will include the next generation of snacking, and “Concepts with Personality and Unique Character”.

European Pizza Championship, Hall A2

Date and time: 14 March 2016, all day

For the third time now, the final of the European Pizza Championship “Giropizza d’Europa” will be held live at INTERNORGA. There will also be a wide range of workshops on pizza subjects, and pizza exhibitors will be present at the event space to demonstrate pizza equipment and give expert advice. The way to perfect pizzas, right here in Germany.

Food Truck Village, in front of the exhibition halls

Dates and times: Saturday 12 March to Monday 14 March 2016

The Food Trucks trend goes from strength to strength. That is why the INTERNORGA Food Truck Village is back again, on the forecourt of the Fair site, directly below the Hamburg Television Tower. Each day the Food Trucks will present their forward looking concepts as mobile cafeterias, and will answer questions by the trade visitors in “Truckers Talk” sessions. The range of products from the trucks is tasty and extensive as usual, and you can taste it there and then. The programme is prepared and coordinated by Lunch-Karawane.

INTERNORGA Future Award, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce

Date: 10  March 2016, by invitation only

The INTERNORGA Future Award will be presented for the sixth time in 2016. It is more prestigious then ever with far-sighted companies and institutions. The Award is presented in a total of four categories, and has established itself as one of the most important prizes in the food service market. The “Trendsetter Company – Artisan” category, which was successfully launched in 2015, will be presented again to honour artisan companies that combine tradition with innovation. The race is heating up.

SKYWALK Table, glass walkway between A site and B site

Dates: daily

The SKYWALK Table is once again the INTERNORGA showcase for table-top trends and innovations. The table is set up on the glass walkway the bridges the road between the A site and the B site, displaying inspirational table decoration. This is the fourth SKYWALK Table – the ultimate eye catcher with a feast of colours and shapes.

Baker’s Blue Box, Hall B6

Spotting the trends, taking the sales opportunities and developing new markets, while always keeping the right balance between expenditure and earnings – those are the keys to success for every bakery, whether large chain company or small individual operator. The trade magazines Back Journal, DBZ magazin and Filialmanagement from INGER-Verlag will host the Baker’s Blue Box again in 2016, in baking hall B6. As at the premiere in 2015, they will include discussion of trend topics like coffee, snacking and sales optimisation, in a relaxed format with leading experts. A new feature this year is the Baker’s Morning Session at 11:30 on Sunday 13 March, when leading bakers speak their minds on the current situation in the bakery trade.

BACK Stage for confectioners, Hall B6.1

Bettina Schliephake-Burchardt, known to TV audiences for her series “The Big Bake-Off” (Das grosse Backen”) and her colleagues from the Confectioners’ Guild in Hamburg, will show just how creative the confectionery trade can be. You can watch demonstrations of special techniques for working with sugar, chocolate, marzipan, etc., presented live on stage, and get inspiration for your own new creations.

“Sweet Art” competition, South Foyer

Dates: exhibition daily, presentation of prizes for artworks 16 March 2016

Delicious craftsmanship! The “Sweet Art” competition invites confectionery trainees to sweeten up the day. The finished works will be on show throughout INTERNORGA, at the Confectioners’ Guild stand in the South Foyer – pure creativity. The presentation of prizes for the best works will be on 16 March. The competition is a traditional feature at INTERNORGA and a culinary high each year, a prestigious honour for young talents in the art of confectionery.

Coffee trends

Dates: daily

70 exhibitors in a total of 5 exhibition halls are dedicated to coffee. INTERNORGA presents the key players and small innovative concepts in the international coffee sector – growers, roasters, processors, machine manufacturers and top baristas. It covers everything from single-serve concepts to semi-automatic and automatic machines, from Schümli to speciality creations.

ICE CREAM World, Hall A2

Dates: daily

The ICE CREAM World opens the ice cream season at INTERNORGA – ice cream parlours, bakers and confectioners, restaurant and hotel operators can get an overview of the wide range of ice cream making methods and equipment, and find the right system for their own business.

DEHOGA Forum, Hall B4 (upper floor)

The traditional forum of the DEHOGA Associations of Bremen, Hamburg, Lippe, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein will be held in Hall B4 (upper floor), with opportunities to meet colleagues and exchange views on the hot topics in the industry.

Café-Future.live, East Foyer (ground floor)

Hospitality lounge and inspiration bar for professional restaurant operators. Café Future.live at INTERNORGA is a very special 6-day event. This is the place to make contacts in an exceptional setting. The Café is a powerful world of colour, for that feel-good effect to renew your energy.

35th International Foodservice Forum, CCH, Conference Hall 1

Date and times: Thursday 10 March, 10:00 to 18:00

This year’s working title is “Rethink and re-invent yourself – consumer trends. Market potentials. Success factors.” The Food Service Forum in Hamburg is the meeting place for all the leading players. This is a real power day, with leading speakers such as Gordon Faehnrich of Subway Deutschland, Holger Beeck of McDonald’s Deutschland and multi-channel operator Michael Käfer. All of them take a close look at the leading brands and show how they can maintain their competitive edge and leading position in the future. Chris Sanderson of The Future Laboratory from London takes a look at nutrition and consumer behaviour of tomorrow, and restaurant operator Laura Koerver analyses the current megatrend Good Food Start-ups.

42nd German Institutional Catering Congress, CCH, Hall 4

The German Institutional Catering Congress on 14 March features leading interdisciplinary speakers who put the focus on guests and their changing demands. Ingo Barlovic of the market research agency iconkids & youth international research analyses the values and world image of Generation Y and the impact that has on the catering sector. Healthy, natural, sustainable – Jörg Reuter of the consultancy grüneköpfe Strategieberatung analyses what consumers want in “good food” and explains how institutional caterers should respond. Jörg-Markus zur Oven, says it is well worth rethinking. As Head of Department for university catering, he has plenty of best-practice examples of how college meal providers have successfully responded to consumer wishes.

INTERNORGA School Catering Forum

School Meals 4.0 – balanced, inexpensive and hip? The INTERNORGA School Catering Forum focuses on current challenges in providing school meals. Christian Schmidt, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, will present the nationwide campaign for quality in school catering on 15 March. Nowadays school meal providers have to find the right balance between attractive pricing and appealing food – Angela Koch of Apetito will describe how to do that effectively. Going to the top of the class with a new concept – Head Teacher Ulrike Waterkamp has completely revamped school meals at Waltrop Comprehensive and explains how she did it. But what do

children really like? What are the factors that determine what they eat? Prof. Britta Renner of Constance University gives some surprising insights.
