LONDON – The British Coffee Association (BCA) has appointed Chris Stemman as its new Executive Director. Stemman has been UK Group Technical Manager at Fine Foods International, leading UK coffee supplier, for the past 18 years and Chairman on the BCA’s Technical and Regulatory Committee since 2009
In that role, Chris oversaw the industry response to the European Food Safety Authority’s coffee review which concluded last year that there are no reasons to be concerned about coffee consumption. At Fine Foods International he has played a key role in building the business into the leading own-label instant coffee supplier in the UK.
The BCA represents the UK coffee industry to regulators, politicians, media and the public. As such, its role is to help create a positive environment for the industry and its culture to thrive.
Chris Stemman said: “Coffee is increasingly important as part of our social and commercial culture. There are huge opportunities and some interesting challenges. I am looking forward to meeting these by building strong and effective relationships with those who have a stake in the industry.”
Kristine Breminer Isgren, Chair of the BCA, said: “Chris has the ideal combination of technical experience and proven ability to build productive relationships with key stakeholders and regulators.
I’m delighted that Chris is taking a more significant role within the Association. With his help we will continue to re-focus and support all aspects of the coffee industry and its culture.”
Stemman will take up the post on 1 July, 2016.
