BOGOTA, Colombia – Under the frame of the VI High-Level Dialogue Colombia-United States held in Washington DC, the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a memorandum of understanding. María Angela Holguín, Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs, was among the attendees.
Juan E. Orduz, FNC representative for North America, and Marcela Escobari, USAID Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, signed the agreement on behalf of the organizations.
In effect for five years, the memorandum will contribute to the post-conflict development of Colombia’s coffee growing regions by channeling resources to different projects and helping improve the profitability of growers. It will also strengthen the agricultural, institutional and educational ties between Colombia and the US.
As part of its mission to foment the welfare of Colombian coffee growers, the FNC provides public goods and services such as Purchase Guarantee, science research, technological development and technical assistance.
It also deploys social development projects in coffee growing regions, many of which are implemented in cooperation with local, domestic and/or international partners.
