TOKYO — Coffee chain Starbucks Coffee Japan on Wednesday began selling decaffeinated espresso coffee in Japan for the first time, in order to increase customers at night.

Starbucks will sell six espresso drinks, including Cafe Mocha and Caramel Macchiato, which are 99% decaf. Each decaf order will cost an extra 50 yen.

According to the company’s website, since no additives were used in removing caffeine from products, the aroma of roasted beans remains just as strong in the newly released products.

Starbucks says it hopes to attract pregnant women and more night-time customers.
