BANGALORE, India – The Coffee Board of India has anticipated a sharp dip in the overall production of coffee in the year 2016-17 as the Western Ghats witnessed erratic rains in February and March.
Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce and Industry Minister informed in a written reply to Parliament that changing climatic conditions, especially unpredicted rainfall and high temperature has adversely affected the production of coffee.
She further added that the white stem borer is one major pest that is damaging the Arabica coffee in India.
The coffee growing states are Kerala, Tamil Nadu & Karnataka 7 is one of the major exporters of coffee.
In September, previous year Asian Development Bank has approved USD 631 million in loans for infra development along VCIC.
