BOULOGNE-BILLANCOURT, France – Michelin is delighted to unveil the new selection in the 2017 MICHELIN Rio & Sao Paulo Guide, available on all download platforms (IOS and Android) and in hard copy, in English and Portuguese.

The 2017 selection distinguishes three restaurants with one star: Laguiole, located in the Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro which offers cuisine with contemporary flavours set in a colourful modern decor.

Oro, the restaurant run by the media chef Felipe BRONZE, who gained its first star in 2015 for its previous address before decided to move, also gets its first star this year: the chef serves a resolutely modern Brazilian cuisine in which he likes to bring a touch of grilled or smoky flavours, orchestrated in tandem with the sommelier Cécila ALDAZ who offers a list of more than 150 wines.

Lastly, Picchi in Sao Paulo has also been awarded one star by the MICHELIN Guide inspectors. Chef Pier Paolo PICCHI serves Italian cuisine that respects the produce, tastes, and tradition without renouncing a few touches of creativity.

Every year, our inspectors are surprised by the development of the gastronomic scene in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, which is constantly moving and where the offer is evolving very rapidly,” commented Michael ELLIS, MICHELIN Guide International Director.

Chefs are continuing their efforts to move the standard of the offer forward by playing with aromas, textures, and flavours to offer customers new experiences while maintaining a particular focus on value for money.”

The 2017 selection has also been enriched with 8 new Bib Gourmand restaurants, selected for their excellent value for money as they offer a complete menu for a maximum of 90 RS. In Rio de Janeiro Bottega del Vino has been awarded this distinction, as have the Bistrot de Paris, A Casa do Porco, Niaya, La Peruana Cevicheria, Più, Tanit and Ton Ton, which are all in Sao Paulo.

This new selection has:

  • 19 starred restaurants
    • 1 restaurant with two stars
    • 18 restaurants with one star, including 3 new ones
  • 33 Bib Gourmand restaurants, including 8 new ones.
