VENICE – Mazzer, Italian company specialized in the production of coffee grinders since 1948, announces the release of two new espresso grinder models: the Robur S and the Kold S, available in two versions, both doser and electronic on demand.

Responding to the needs of a busy café and integrating technological advances, the new models reduce coffee retention by 52%, have a built‐in memory board that can keep track of coffee statistics and let the user program different time settings, and are cloud compatible, with an app currently in development to accompany the grinder.

For these new models, Mazzer looked closely at what baristas and busy cafés needed. Although most cafés know how much coffee they go through, countless pounds are lost due to retention, purging the grinder in between grind adjustments.

Burr changes and maintenance checks are usually assigned at particular amount of coffee ground but without any sort of tracking system, knowing when to maintain and clean a grinder can be difficult and lead to future technical issues and inconsistent coffee.

Mazzer addressed these problems through four major innovations:

  • Reduced retention – Coffee retention in the grinding chamber is reduced by 52%, reducing the amount of coffee wasted by purging and grind adjustments by half
  • An easy system for burrs change and cleaning of the grinding chamber quickly and without losing your grind setting
  • New electronic control panel —Lets you know how many shots have been pulled, features programmable time settings for single double and triple dose, and tracks maintenance updates, like when burrs should be changed
  • Cloud compatibility – Electronic grinders designed to be cloud compatible, so you can access information and statistics anywhere, with an app to be unveiled for the grinder in the next few months

Designing a coffee grinder that meets the needs of professional baristas has always been our goal. Thanks to our customers and friends that, with their feedback and suggestions, helped us to evolve one step further.” Says Mauro Michielan, chief of Mazzer’s R&D Lab.

Although Mazzer is proud of all of the new features of the Robur S and Kold S, producing a grinder that is cloud compatible paves the way for even more new ideas and innovative traits. “With the Robur S and Kold S we have greatly improved a product that was already appreciated by the coffee community. Less retention, a grinding chamber that is easy to clean, and great versatility with many settings that can be customized by the user.

There’s been big acceleration at this company,” shares Mauro, noting that the release of these two new models comes closely behind the release of the Mazzer ZM earlier this year at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Seattle and at London Coffee Festival.

Mazzer has seen significant growth in the last few years as the specialty coffee scene continues to grow and demand for high-quality grinders increases. “We’re listening to more of what baristas need. We know there is always room for improvement, I’m sure in the next few years the young team of engineers of our R&D Lab will find new innovative solutions for the barista community.

The new Robur S and Kold S grinders are exactly that – responses to barista needs and a commitment to ensuring that, with the right equipment, quality coffee can be made by baristas of different skill sets. “The grinders are sophisticated enough for experienced baristas to use, but are designed to make grinding easy. The more the grinder is designed to help baristas, the better the coffee will be.

Mazzer is exhibiting at Host 2017, Hall 24, Stand M50/N39.
