LONDON, UK – According to a new report from London-based consultants Allegra, Starbucks has overtaken O’Brien’s to become the third largest coffee chain operating in Ireland, behind Insomnia and Costa Coffee.
Allegra’s report indicates that, overall, the branded coffee markets grew by 23 stores last year, with Insomnia, Costa and Starbucks now accounting for 52 percent of the market between them.
Insomnia, Ireland’s largest coffee chain, opened two new stores in 2017, bringing the total number of outlets in its portfolio to 128, while Costa’s store count rose from 88 to 102 last year and Starbucks opened eight new branches, increasing its Irish portfolio to 79 and putting it ahead of O’Brien’s, which currently operates 73 stores in Ireland.
