The Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cacao (Cámara Peruana del Café y Cacao) and the National Board of Coffee (Junta Nacional del Café) have joined forces with the Global Coffee Platform to launch the first official statistical joint coffee report ever released in the country.

During the launching event, representatives of each organization highlighted the importance of working together towards similar goals, and more importantly, find common ground to strengthen Peruvian sustainable coffee practices for years to come.

This is a milestone for Peruvian coffee and its stakeholders”  affirmed Guillermo Belloso, GCP Manager for Latin-America. “In Peru, every stakeholder has its own statistics, but with this new report, two main organizations have agreed on using similar data to measure impact on coffee. This alignment has never happened before.

The report will be published every three months and will aim to align both private and public organizations from the coffee value chain and their decisions, which will directly impact on how coffee will be produced in Peru.

Some of the highlights in the report are:

  • In 2017, Perú exported more than US$670 Million of coffee.
  • Peruvian coffee will be taken mainly to United States, Germany and Belgium.
  • 15 main traders represent 80 % of the coffee volume. They are represented by small producer associations, national companies and international ones.
  • While coffee’s global demand will increase from 155 to 205 million bags between 2015 and 2030, it is expected from Peru an increase on its production from 4.0 to 7.5 million during the same time.
