SEOUL, South Korea — A South Korean organisation said Monday it will push for a barter exchange between locally produced apples with Vietnamese coffee to help local farms cope with an oversupply.
The National Agriculture Cooperative Federation (NACF) said it has been talking with its Vietnamese counterpart to arrange an exchange.
The two sides will discuss details of the proposal on the sidelines of the upcoming meeting of the International Co-operative Agricultural Organization to be held in Turkey next month.
South Korea’s imports of coffee products, including beans, hit a record high in 2016 on the back of burgeoning demand for the brewed drink, according to the Korea Customs Service (KCS).
Vietnam is the second-largest coffee exporter in the South Korean market, with a 19.2 percent share, it noted.
