Vietnam’s Statistics Office sees Jan-May exports at 13.75 million bags

Coffee exports from Vietnam during the first five months of this year are expected to rise by 1.8% compared the same period last year, government data revealed on Tuesday.

Shipments are see, at 825,000 tons, or 13.75 million bags, according to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office.

May coffee exports are estimated at 140,000 tonnes, worth US$276 million.

However, revenue fell by 12% to to US$1.6 billion due to lower international prices.

Weather conditions in the Central Highlands are favourable for the coming crop year, with moderate rains, Nguyen Viet Vinh, general secretary of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), said last week.

“It’s still too early to have a forecast on the 2018-19 crop year output, but the weather is good for the coffee trees, which are now bearing lots of baby fruits,” Vinh stated in an interview with Reuters.
