MILAN – World coffee exports fell sharply in May, mainly due to lower shipments from Brazil caused by a truck drivers’ strike that paralysed the country during the last third of the month.
Volumes of Other Milds also recorded a significant drop; exports of Colombian Milds, on the other hand, rose significantly on year.
According to the International Coffee Organization, overall exports during the month of May amounted to 9.27 million bags in May 2018, compared with 10.58 million in May 2017 (-12.4%).
Exports of Arabicas were 17% down to 5.619 million bags; shipments of Robusta recorded a more modest fall of 4.4%.
