MILAN — Brazil exported 20.5 million 60kg bags of coffee in the first eight months of this calendar year, a 4.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to a Monthly report issued by the Brazilian Council of Coffee Exporters (Cecafé).
According to statistics, in August 2018 the country exported 3.4 million bags of roasted, ground, soluble and green coffee, or a 30.4% growth in relation to the same month of the last year.
Despite adrop in the average price per bag between August 2017 and 2018 (from US$ 163.87 to US $ 138.24), Brazil still saw a 10% increase in revenue from exports.
Arabicas represented 74.5% of the total export volume in August, or 2.5 million bags, followed by Robustas (15.8%, or 537 thousand bags) and soluble (9.6%, or 328 thousand bags).
Differentiated coffees
Brazil’s differentiated coffee beans have also shown growth in exports. From January to August 3.45 million bags of these special coffee varieties were shipped abroad, a 15.9% rise compared to the same period in 2017.
Differentiated coffee beans also accounted for 16.9% of the total volume of exports and 20.5% of all coffee export revenue obtained by Brazil in the period.
The main destinations were the United States (20.1%, or 693 thousand bags), Belgium (14.4%, or 498 thousand bags) and Germany (13.3%, or 459 thousand bags).
