MILAN – A new estimate from Safras & Mercado pegs Brazil’s coffee crop for 2019/20 harvest at 58.9 million bags, down 8.1% from a revised estimate of 64.1 million bags for 2018/19. Coffee production for crop year 2018/19 was previously estimated at 63.70 million bags

An excellent performance in exports as well as inventories stored in warehouses reinforces the sentiment that last year’s coffee crop was higher than anticipated, said Safras & Mercado coffee analyst Gil Barabach.

Arabica coffee production in crop year 2019/20 is projected to fall by 15% to 40.7 million bags, while Robusta output is seen at 18.2 million bags, up 12% on year.

After a month of January marked by high temperatures and above-average rainfall, rains were back in the coffee belt in February allowing a good coffee bean filling, Barabach also said.
