LAS MARIA, Puerto Rico – The world’s strongest coffee brand, Black Insomnia Coffee, is partnering with non-profit organization Café Artesano, to help rebuild the devastated coffee industry in Puerto Rico.

As a result of Hurricane Maria in 2017, over 90% of coffee trees were destroyed on the island – one of its main sources of income. This partnership seeks to rebuild and support the Puerto Rican farming community, who lost an estimated *$60 million in crops in its wake.

As of June, Black Insomnia Coffee will donate up to five per cent of its profits every month to the organization. This will help to support farmers with an income while they wait to harvest crops; a labour-intensive process that can take up to three years.

Café Artesano also raises funds from tree adoption programs, with proceeds helping to replant coffee trees on the island.

Alexander Sacken, CEO of Black Insomnia Coffee, said: “We are passionate about two things; making great coffee and supporting the community we serve. When we heard about Café Artesano and their amazing work, we knew we wanted to be involved. Today we are very proud to announce our partnership to directly support coffee farmers in Puerto Rico.

“Black Insomnia Coffee is known for its richness and potency, none of this would be possible without the premium ingredients we source from farmers. It is our privilege to give in some small way.”

Black Insomnia Coffee sources high caffeine coffee beans from independent farmers in; India, Peru, Vietnam, and Puerto Rico once they are able to harvest again. Its smooth flavour and potency is the combination of Arabica beans (20 per cent) and Robusta beans (80 per cent), that are delicately barrel roasted.

Shirley Cabán from Café Artesano, said: “We are delighted to partner with Black Insomnia Coffee to help support the farming trade in Puerto Rico. Our organization was born out of a desire to help the island get back on its feet, knowing that the industry would not exist if it wasn’t for farmers on the island. We continue to invite supporters to adopt a tree and make their contribution too.”

Black Insomnia Coffee is available at blackinsomnia.coffee retailing from $15.99 for a 1lb delivery. To stay up to date with their latest news, please follow @blackinsomnia on Twitter and Instagram.
