MELBOURNE, Australia – The Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE2020) and the World Coffee Championships (WCC) are scheduled to proceed as planned, organisers said in a press release issued on Tuesday.

MICE2020 is closely monitoring developments related to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, says the release.

“This event is supported by the Victorian State Government, and in addition we are working closely with the Department of Home Affairs to receive up-to-date information on health and safety protocols.

Infection rates in Australia are low, and MICE2020 is working alongside the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and World Coffee Events (WCE) to ensure the health and safety of all exhibitors, attendees and competitors.

Decisions related to COVID-19 are made in consultation and as a joint initiative with the MICE2020 Executive Management team, the Victorian Government, the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs, the MCEC, WCE and Public Safety Australia (MICE2020 OH&S contractor)”.

Travel into Australia

“We are aware that there are currently some travel restrictions from non-Australian citizens and permanent residents travelling from mainland China and Iran. No other countries are affected.

These restrictions are reviewed weekly” concluded the release.

The website of the event contains further information on how to reduce the spread of infection of communicable diseases (as recommended by the World Health Organisation) and on any current travel restrictions in place.
