MILAN – Daily coffee drinkers in the United States have increased by 5% since 2015 according to the 2020 National Coffee Data Trends (Ncdt), which was released on Thursday. The National Coffee Association (Nca) has commissioned this annual survey (formerly known as National Coffee Drinking Trends) since 1950. Ncdt provides the longest available statistical series on consumer drinking patterns related to coffee and other beverages.

According to the Ncdt, 62% of people in the United States drink some type of coffee every day. The consumption of other forms of the beverage such as frozen, blended or cold brews is rising among young people.

This makes coffee the most beloved drink among Americans.

NCA also found that 20% of Americans under 40 drink at least one cup of cold brew coffee per week. The drink, which practically did not exist five years ago, is prepared with room temperature water with ground coffee added over a period of up to 12 hours.

The study said the number of people that drink coffee without sugar grew 66% from 2015 to 2020.

NCA President and CEO Bill Murray said, “This year’s release shows just how much Americans rely on the energy, comfort and normalcy of their favorite brew. But, these are challenging times, and the coffee business is not as usual.”
