MILAN – Coffee exports from Vietnam in the first quarter of calendar year 2020 likely rose 4.5% on year, according to preliminary data released by the Government on Wednesday. Coffee shipments from the world’s second largest exporter of the commodity reached 659,000 tonnes or 10.98 million bags, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.

Export earnings are expected to rise 2.2% to $1.11 billion during the same period.

According to the same source, coffee exports from Vietnam in April are estimated at 170,000 tonnes, worth $280 million.

Vietnam lifted its social isolation measures at the end of April 22 but continues to take precautions by limiting the gathering of people and making face mask wearing mandatory.

The country has reported 271 cases of COVID-19 as of May 5 with no deaths as yet.

Vietnam has managed to achieve this feat by aggressive contact tracing, testing, mass quarantining, timeliness, and the efficient mobilization of state agencies.
