PIAN DI SAN BARTOLO, Italy – Accademia del Caffè Espresso, the cultural and training center founded by La Marzocco, will be present at the twentieth edition of AFCA, the African Fine Coffees Conference & Exhibition, scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa from February 6 to 10.

AFCA is the largest coffee event held in Africa, and the twentieth edition, organized with the support of the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO), Robusta Coffee Agency of Africa and Madagascar (ACRAM), and the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA), will bring together over 2000 industry professionals.
The theme of the 2024 edition is “Specialty Coffee at Origin“, aiming to delve into the quality of high-quality coffees cultivated and consumed by the producing countries.
Massimo Battaglia, coffee research Leader at Accademia, will present on Friday, February 9, at 10:30 some of the current research projects in a presentation titled “Master Quality: The Role of Processing, Fermentation, and Equipment in Elevating Coffee Excellence.” A unique opportunity to discuss the results obtained in different origin countries regarding fermentation, water quality, and traceability.
In particular, the research project carried out in Honduras with IHCAFE (Honduran Coffee Institute) and CDR Food Lab will be presented, analyzing the effects of fermentation on the quality of washed coffees through monitoring chemical parameters from the cherry to the cup.
The project aims to expand to other producing countries in Central America, and the presentation at AFCA could open up opportunities to extend the research project to producers in the African continent as well.
