DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – Accademia del caffè espresso, La Marzocco’s coffee culture and innovation center, will attend the 21st edition of AFCA (African fine coffees & exhibition center) in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, from February 28th till February 29th, sponsoring the show with equipment for the national barista competitions, with in-house expertise for product demos and industry lectures (featuring La Marzocco’s Area Export Manager – Mike Kahn – for tech trainings, and Accademia’s Coffee Research Leader – Massimo Battaglia – for the “Consenso” speech and for addressing Central American Coffee Fermentation studies).
As a novelty and integral part of the tradeshow this year, Accademia del caffè espresso, as technical partner, has joined forces with Songwa Estates, the longtime co-managed Tanzanian coffee plantation and socio-educational platform supported by the Florentine company, to design a curated Coffee Safari experience on the farm itself, in Mbeya (23-25 February).
A visit will also be organized to the nearby Muvwa primary school, which La Marzocco has helped complete over the years with new infrastructure and services.

This 3-day journey will involve a dozen AFCA event attendees in the discovery of Songwa Estates’ coffee communities and activities and of the innovative operations on the adjacent plot of land, Utengule Farm, housing Consenso: a connected plantation set up with the support of PNAT and Cisco and which, through the application of sensors and remote data analysis, aims to research coffee plants’ health in order to optimize agricultural practices and ultimately support the industry in tackling the impact of global warming.
