AUCKLAND, New Zealand – New Zealand’s reputation as a coffee-loving nation has been reaffirmed in the lounges of the national airline. Coffee has topped the likes of hot chocolates and chai lattes as the most preferred beverage that can be ordered through Air New Zealand’s mobile app when using a selection of its New Zealand and Australian lounges.
The app registered today its one millionth coffee order since going live in August 2014.
Air New Zealand Manager of Global Lounges Verity Jade says nearly half of the one million orders were the Kiwi favourite, the flat white.
“Our baristas have been busy making an average of 2,500 coffees a day. Whether our lounge customers are travelling for work or leisure, providing a quick and easy way to order their favourite coffee is an important part of the seamless customer experience.
“We know New Zealanders love their caffeine hit and it’s pleasing to see that ordering a barista made coffee via the mobile app has been a real hit too.”
Baristas have ground approximately 90 million coffee beans and used more than 200,000 litres of milk.
Air New Zealand lounge customers who have downloaded the Air New Zealand mobile app are sent a notification to the app to order a coffee when they enter one of the six participating lounges. The app will also remember the customer’s favourite coffee for their next visit.
Auckland Domestic lounge has served the most coffees – more than 300,000 – followed by Wellington Domestic lounge and Auckland International lounge.
Forty six percent of customers ordered a flat white with the second most popular being the latte, while the long black and cappuccino slogged it out for third and fourth positon.
Coffee beans in Air New Zealand lounges are supplied by New Zealand coffee roasters, Gravity Coffee.
Participating Air New Zealand lounges include Auckland International, Auckland Domestic, Auckland Regional, Wellington Domestic, Christchurch Domestic and Sydney International lounges.
