MELBOURNE – The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) has announced that it will be bringing its internationally recognised professional development programs to the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) in May 2014.
SCAA has been involved in support of the Australian coffee community since the very first MICE event in 2012, but this will mark the first official educational collaboration between the two organisations.
Ten training classes and two final exams for SCAA professional certificate programs will be available; the Barista Level 1 program and the SCAA Coffee Taster Certificate Module 1 program. This represents the largest offering of SCAA classes to date outside the United States.
Students who attend e-learning classes prior to MICE (or who have taken classes before) can earn their certification at MICE for the first time ever.
“Participation in world-class events like MICE allow SCAA to work towards fulfilling our vision to support a vibrant coffee community,” says SCAA Director of Professional Development Ellie Hudson.
“Consistency in education throughout our industry helps us to advance our mission to recognize, develop and promote specialty coffee.”
“Having all things coffee under one roof is and essential element for the ongoing success of the MICE event,” says Show Director Clint Hendry. “Partnering with the most respected educational provider in the world makes perfect sense and further strengthens the ties between the regions.”
