BAGUIO CITY, PhilippinesAbout 800 coffee industry stakeholders will converge in the Summer Capital for the Second National Coffee Congress at the Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza from November 23-25, to discuss the prospects of the Philippine coffee industry in relation to the prevailing trends in the global market.

Department of Trade and Industry-Cordillera Administrative Region (DTI-CAR) Director Myrna Pablo said speakers from Brazil, the world’s top coffee producer, and Vietnam, the second highest coffee producer in the world, will share their best practices that made coffee one of their major export products.

Pablo said there has been a decline in coffee production in the Philippines in recent years mostly due to aging trees and poor farming practices as well as the conversion of coffee plantations to other cash crops.

She added that the first Philippine Coffee Congress was convened in 2013 by DTI-CAR and the Department of Agriculture, in coordination with industry stakeholders to revitalize the coffee industry and regain the country’s position as a major coffee producer in Asia during the colonial period
