The coffee machine: S5 During the competition the contestants will work on the espresso coffee machine model S5 EK , in the electronic version with automatic dose setting . Being on the market since 2005, up to now it is the most appreciated and popular La Spaziale model among its customers . What is peculiar about this machine is the electronic temperature control , through a led panel which allows the barista to always know and easily read the operating temperature and to be able to better control and set it, as needed.
The electronic temperature control is also essential for a highly sensitive adjustment of the operating temperature of the machine according to the coffee blend used and for a perfect and consistent espresso extraction. The specific version used during the competition (see the picture enclosed ) will be a 3 group T.A. (Take Away), that is to say a coffee machine with raised groups (16 cm distance between spouts and drip tray ) and removable supporting grids for espresso cups: this allows all baristas to deliver perfect espresso and cappuccino drinks both in traditional cups and in take way tall paper cups , being “the take away mode” so popular especially abroad. All S5 machines are also equipped with a manual lever , instead of a knob , for steam delivery : this feature is generally so much appreciated by baristas who can better control the steam dose necessary to correctly foam milk for cappuccino preparation.
