Coffee exports from Brazil rose 6.8% on year in January to 2,969,557 bags, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council, or CeCafe reports in its monthly figures.
Export earnings surged 53.3% to US$590.641 million, the highest value in a month of January in four years.
Exports of green coffee rose 11.5% on year. Arabica shipments were up 2.3% to 2,420,738 bags. Robusta sales jumped a whopping 199% to 344,574 bags.
On the other hand, the exports of processed coffee fell 31.8% to 204,245 bags, mainly of soluble coffee.
In the 12-month period ending in January, Brazil exported 36,599,622 bags of coffee valued at $6.8 billion.
Some 61% of Brazilian coffee exports went to Europe; 19% went to North America; and 15% to Asia, the report said.
Germany was the top buyer, with a 19% share of Brazilian coffee exports, followed by the United States, with 17%; Italy, with 10%; Belgium, with 9%; and Japan, with 7%.
Arabica coffee accounted for 79% of Brazilian coffee exports, followed by Robusta, with 11.9%, and soluble coffee, with 9%.
