MILAN – In July, coffee exports from Brazil amounted to 2,826,266 million bags, or a 12.8% decrease over a year ago. Shipments of green coffee fell 12.4% to 2,512,665 bags, of which 2,113,054 (-12.7%) of Arabica and 399.611 bags (-10.8%) of Robusta. Exports of processed coffee (mostly soluble) were 15.9% down to 313.601 bags.
Shipping difficulties kept hindering operations, the exporters association Cecafé said in a report.
According to the Association, Brazil’s coffee sector is going through a “grave operational crisis, amid soaring freight rates, booking cancellations and difficulties to find space in vessels.”
The issues were caused by the surge in demand for food and electronics, mainly in the United States and Asia.
